With a mother whose love for fine antiques and a natural ability to create both interior and exterior “magazine worthy” spaces, I grew up surrounded by well-planned and intentional beauty.
My own love and desire to create developed in college during the three years I studied Landscape Architecture at Auburn University. Though ultimately graduating in education, those years opened up my eyes to a whole new world of design. Creating story boards of my inspiration, building to-scale models of designed structures and their surrounding environments, and presenting final projects to peers and professors demanded me to think “outside the box” at all times. It was a challenge I thrived on. It left a mark that, to this day, still resides deep within me and continues to fuel my need to create.
In 2021 I discovered a new creative outlet when I picked up a paintbrush and palette knife, and in 2022 I started Tanner Rees Munson Fine Art. Still sometimes baffled as to why I turned to painting, I feel some things cannot be explained with reason and that it was just always meant to be!
My inspiration comes from encountered textures and colors, Interior Design, the beaches of 30A, childhood memories of summer trips to visit my grandparents in Winter Park, FL., and most significantly my family’s land only a few minutes from my home.
It is over 3,000 acres of swampland, marshes, bogs, lakes, mossy forests, and fields. It is my playground and my heart.
My original Signature Collections Horizons will always be a collection I will revisit and continue to create, as will my use of a more coastal collection of colors, but I am so excited to see how my work in this journey continues to evolve through my exploration of materials, experiences, and curiosity. I don’t ever want that to stop!
Tanner is a self-taught abstract artist who lives in Pike Road, AL with her husband and two beautiful girls.
