Miriam Simmons

Miriam has always had a passion for art and design- even as a child. It has been with her all along. Although she did not pursue art and design in her college studies, art and design have pursued her. In a very organic fashion Miriam began work in interior design and enjoyed working with homeowners to create spaces of beauty and comfort for their families and friends. She loved all types of home design, and her mantra was and is “a home tells you what it needs.” Eventually, Miriam began working full time administrative work which fuels her love of order and organization.

The pandemic offered the opportunity for Miriam to finally do what she always knew that she would do. She started painting and she hasn’t stopped since. During after work hours and on weekends, you will find her in her newest favorite pair of dangly earrings – creating and painting while her playlist blares happy and soulful tunes. These songs and their lyrics are actually the inspiration for the names of her paintings.

Miriam paints in acrylic on canvas, paper and panels. Her art is influenced by many things. Her love for interior design drives her color, texture and style choices. Her constant muse is the of South Carolina coast – with its colors and strong horizontal landscapes. She often jokes that she has given herself completely over to the color aqua. You will find it in varying shades in many of her works which usually lie somewhere between realism and abstract.

Miriam and the love of her life for 40 years, Steve, live in their hometown of Rock Hill, SC. They are head over heels for their son, his beautiful wife and their adorable princess granddaughters. In addition to her gallery space at Partager, Miriam’s work is sold and represented by the Hickory Post - home of the Rock Hill Collective, of which she is a member.
